It may look like a little different, but the Double Paddle Handle allows you to secure a fast, sure grip without fumbling; quicker transition to hookset. Additionally, the double Paddle handle completes the DynaBalance system by ensuring that the spinning handle passions in balance.
One of the most stressful points your line touches is the line guide roller. Under full drag stress, the line takes a 90 degree bend. The sharper the turn, the more stressful it is to your line. The oversized Power Roller design takes the line around a wider, less stressful path. The Power Roller of the has a stainless steel Stradicball bearing cartridge on the inside to ensure even smoother low friction rotation.
The AeroWrap two speed oscillaion system layers the line on your spool in an even crisscross pattern that minimises the line-to-line friction on a cast. Shimano AeroWrap reels use patented worm gear design to move the spool upward quickly and download slowly to wind the line in a precise pattern. Regular spinning reels use circular cams that caused the line to build up at the ends of the spool. AeroWrap reels win the line evenly in a friction reducing pattern to give you smoother, longer casting ability.
Fightin’ Drag II gives you mistake-proof drag setting ability. First, with the Fightin’ Drag II lever in strike position, set the round drag programming knob to the tension where most of your fishing will be done. Now, whenever you want to adjust your drag while fishing, just use the Fightin’ Drag II lever. When you want to return to your original drag tension, move the Fighting Drag II lever back into strike position.
Our bail springs are meant to last. Instead of being made of a flimsy wire that wears easily, the No-Fail-Bail sporing is made from a wear resistant design that consists of a spring and two guides. Bail failure is now a thing of the past.
Provides easy one-handed casts. Just turn the handle backward and the line trigger are within easy grasp on your finger.
The cold forged aluminium AeroSpool gives added durability to one of the most stressed parts of you spinning reels, not to mention the added good looks. Hot cast aluminium can have small air spaces inside the part. Cold forging makes a stronger spool by not allowing any hidden air pockets that could be weak points in the structure. The Low flange and angled surfaces of the aluminium AeroSpool reduce line drag for longer casting distance. Friction is further reduced with the titanium silicon carbide spool ring. Where the line rubs the edge of the spool, there is a silicon carbide ring coated with friction reducing titanium.
Precise, durable and lightweight graphite composite or aluminium is used to make many spools featured on various models.
XT-7 is a Shimano proprietary material that is 10% lighter and 20% stronger than graphite. XT-7 is a plastic resin that contains no graphite. Even though it has a plastic feeling, it is mechanically superior to graphite.
This is a lightweight, resilient material that AX & FX bodies and rotors are made of. Composed mostly of plastic resin, a small amount of graphite is added, filling the crystalline structure resulting in a stronger part.
The body case and rotor structure precision aluminium parts. Light, strong and structurally solid, these precision parts need little in the way of maintenance.
Newton said it first. "For every action, there will be an equal and opposite reaction". A law of motion. Take a spinning reel, spin the handle and you have a rotor wobble. A law of fishing tackle. Not anymore! Shimano DynaBalance breaks through this limitation of spinning reels that totally eliminates rotor wobble. Weight has been redistributed and counterbalanced to create an unbelievably solid rotation. And the double paddle handle finishes off the balancing completely. You’ve never felt a spinning reel this good. In fact, every Dyna Balance reel is computer balanced for perfect rotational dynamics. DynaBalance design removes excess sensitivity reducing vibrations that have forever plagued spin fishermen. Thus, it creates a more stable platform, less taxing to the anglers hand. It makes spinning reels a little less awkward and by virtue of being less taxing to use, they allow you to feel subtle bites. Spinning reels have forever been designed merely to hold the necessary parts. You know bails, gears, line rollers, bail return trip mechanisms and the like. No thought was given then to the system as whole. Until now. DynaBalance. For the lawbreaker in us all.
Super stopper anti-reverse has been engineered to give you three times more stopping points than our previous non-Quickfire spinning reels, and a larger, more durable stopping gear. The result is a stronger anti-reverse system with virtually no backplay. An on/off switch allows you to turn Super Stopper off for free cranking in either direction.
It was this facility which helped to make our original Baitrunner reels standard equipment for most of the leading live bait enthusiasts. They were quick to see the merits of a system which permitted fish to run with a bait while the bail arm remains closed. An improved and updated version is incorporated in the new series of BaitRunner reels. When the BaitRunner lever is pushed forward the normal drag system is completely by-passed. A fish picking up the bait can make an almost friction free run - until the angler flips the lever back, or turns the reel handle, to bring the reel into striking mode. There can be more tension in the BaitRunner system if you need it. Many anglers have been quick to see the advantages on rivers. There is a tension adjustment ring just ahead of the rear drag adjustment knob. Turn it the required amount and the line can be made to resist whatever pressure there is from the flow. With flow and tension precisely balanced a problem-free run is guaranteed. Contrast that delicate but simple method with any of those which rely on line pulling out of a clip. In any sort of flow you have yards of slack to reel in before you can strike! Just another example of Shimano technology achieving the ultimate efficiency.
AeroWrap is a major step forward in precision line lay. When line comes off a standard spool it rubs against, and is trapped by, the coils next to it. It cuts yards off your casting, but with Shimano it is no longer a problem. AeroWrap oscillates the spool at two different speeds. On the 8010 it lays seven coils parallel, then four diagonally (these figures vary, but only slightly, on other Aero reels). The free flow of line on casting has to be experienced to be believed. Friction, the great enemy, has been almost neutralised. AeroSpool is phase two of the same battle. Friction also arises when line leaving a narrow spool has to climb an ever deepening frontlip. So Shimano have provided a longer, tapered carbon spool which dramatically reduces front of spool friction. Wider, tapered spools can be shallower while still retaining sufficient line. For all the Aeros these two features, working together, make casting a dream. There was a problem with long-nosed spools. They had to have external trip systems. Not any more. Shimano have incorporated the first true internal bail trip system - fitted, of course, with our famous, no fail bail arm spring. The oversized roller line guide also contains a ball bearing for smooth line retrieve.
